Movie Marketing and Fake News Intersect

In what we see as a disturbing marketing ploy, a movie company has been using five fake news sites to promote its latest film A Cure for Wellness coming out this week. The sites include promotional references to the film in fake news stories and have advertising for the film placed throughout the sites. Buzzfeed, which has the story, explains that a number of fake news articles found on these sites and unrelated to the film have been picked up as real news, further proliferating fake news that could cause serious damage. As an example, one story explained a purported temporary ban on vaccinations by the Trump Administration. This was all done to obtain publicity, but the result is further marginalization of real news.
