Until now, Google algorithms sought out keywords that could be found in a website’s content to help determine how the website would be ranked in a search. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, depended on this type of keyword search. However, Google is moving to use semantic search as the primary means of determining SEO, or a website’s ranking. Semantic search involves having AI, or artificial intelligence, determine the intent of a phrase, or series of words. This makes semantic search more important in how a site is ranked.
