Teenagers have mixed feelings about social media
Despite the concern about online bullying and other behavior, teenagers opinions about social media are mixed. So says the Pew Research Center, which just released its newest survey about people aged 13-17 and how they use digital media. Forty-five percent of those polled say it has neither a positive or negative effect on them. About a third report a mostly positive impact, helping them stay in touch with family and friends. Just a quarter call the effect negative, citing online intimidation, the spread of rumors and other concerns. The center last conducted this study three years ago and since them, the percentage of teenagers with smartphones has jumped from 73% to 95%. Given the pace of change in the digital universe, Pew made need to do these surveys more frequently.
