Changing the Narrative, Nothing New

Changing the Narrative, Nothing New

Unlike the game of “Telephone” in which a story is whispered to one person and as it is passed down the line to others it becomes something totally different, changing the narrative is an intentional process of re-positioning the story discussion. Like the game “telephone”, changing the narrative has been around about as long as the telephone, though the term is relatively new. Public relations practitioners have sought to have issues seen in a different light from the beginning of the industry. The tactics used have evolved in sophistication as the ways we communicate have become more complex. Looking at many headlines, one might think changing the narrative is new, but really it is just a new term for encouraging people to appreciate and take your position.
