Is the World in Daily Crisis?

Looking at the news of the day, we might think the world is going to end tomorrow. A quick Google news search would imply that the world is verging on destruction. Here are just a few of today’s and yesterday’s headline issues that are identified as a “crisis”: human rights, opioids, housing, sex trafficking, healthcare, faith, the Catholic Church sex abuse, Italy’s budget, Gaza, HIV in Nigeria, child detention, college completion, Tsunami-hit Indonesia, global warming, senior on the streets, water in Kentucky and the list goes on and on. Yes, these are very important issues. Some are life and death or extremely serious in nature, but the daily crisis list is ongoing. Maybe one or more of these crises will end the world, or send it back to the dark ages. However, for everyone’s sanity maybe we should be more careful about how the media identifies a “crisis” before we become desensitized and uncaring about real issues, or we live our lives in total fear that the end is neigh.
