‘Cosmopolitan’ Axed From Walmart Checkout

NPR in the first paragraph of their story explains the situation. “The nation’s largest retailer has bounced Cosmopolitan from the coveted checkout aisle following a years-long campaign targeting the women’s magazine for its ‘hyper-sexualized’ covers and content”. That campaign has been waged by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation which issued this press release on the action. They equate Cosmopolitan to Playboy’s use of female sexuality to sell magazines. In a recent Goldman blog, we discussed how business appears to be taking their social responsibility more seriously. This is one example.
