The new “pink collar profession”
The era of jobs by gender is supposed to be over. But social media has become a pink collar profession, according to Wired. It cites a thought-provoking study of job postings for social media content workers. Many say they seek candidates who are sociable, good at emotional management and flexible, traits typically considered to be feminine. Their roles tend to be behind-the-scenes, not necessarily well respected within the company and often low paid. Many of these workers are contractors rather than full-time employees. It’s ironic given that what they produce is highly visible and can make or break a brand.
