Question (2)Even among Hispanics and Latinos, the two dominant pan-ethnic labels that describe people whose roots trace back to Spain or Latin America, the term Latinx is not commonly understood or used. Hispanic languages are heavily gendered. Latinx is a gender neutral form for describing the Hispanic population. Lately, it is being used more in media in an effort to be gender neutral and inclusive of LGBTQ Hispanics. Pew Research Center has studied this word in the United States and has found that only one-in-four Hispanics knows what the word means. Even less use it. Though Latinx isn’t common today, it could very likely become so in the future.
